According to LRS 14:225A(3) – if a person vandalizes, or otherwise damages, a school or educational facility, they could be imprisoned for up to six (6) months and/or pay up to a $500 fine when the damage is less than $500 dollars. The punishment becomes more severe as the damage increases.

According to LRS 14:25 – If a person harbors, hides, or aids a person after the commission of a felony can be charged with Accessories After the Fact. If convicted, the person could face up to five years in prison and/or a $500 fine.

Did You Know? – Firearms in Bars

According to LRS 14:95.5 – Only the owner/lessee, employee, and law enforcement can possess a firearm in a bar, or any other place where alcoholic beverages are sold in individual servings for consumption. Violators could be fined up to $500 and/or spend six months in jail.

Did You Know? – “Huffing” Can Kill

According to LRS 14: 93.1 – it’s illegal for a person to intentionally smell or inhale the fumes of model glue or toxic vapors to get high, commonly referred to as “huffing”.

According to the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, “huffing” is becoming increasingly popular among children and especially among 12 to 14 year olds. Huffing can kill the very first time children experiment with it (DrGreene.com). A person arrested for this could get up to a $100 fine and/or 90 days in jail.

Did You Know? – False Imprisonment

According to LRS 14:46 – False Imprisonment is when someone confines or detains another person without their consent or proper legal authority. If someone is found in violation of this law they can be imprisoned for not more than six months and/or pay a fine up to $200.

Did You Know? – Dogfighting

According to LRS 14:102.5 – A person that causes any dog to fight with another dog, or cause any dogs to injure each other for amusement or gain, or is just a knowing spectator, can be charged and face a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $25,000 and/or jail time not less than one year nor more than ten years. Did You Know? – Theft of Goods

According to LRS 14:67.10 – A person who takes anything of value for sale by a merchant with the intention of permanently depriving the merchant can be charged with a felony or a misdemeanor depending on the value of the collective items taken. After two convictions, regardless of the value of the items taken it is a felony crime.
